As a modernized system of care, the Institution is a shelter of harmonious coexistence with humane and personalized care. It provides organized health services: medical supervision, nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological support for comprehensive coverage of elderly and disabled ’s needs, in a safe therapeutic environment, with a capacity of 64 nursing positions.
It aims at people aged 18 and over to old age, from the metropolitan region and the rest of Crete, who can not look after themselves, particularly:
• At the lonely and financially weak elderly who seeks a permanent solution
• At the one who is unable to take care of himself and needs special care
• At the person who desperately tries to keep himself in his natural environment
• At the person who faces serious social problems
There are two treatment departments: Pathological – Geriatric Patient Care Wing and the nursing Wing for patients who suffer from dementia.
Each section has separate main entrance, with external flat areas that have ramps from each side for easy access.
Inpatient wards are mostly double, equipped with modern therapeutic beds, bedside tables and furniture equipment, with pleasant décor so as to make the patient’s stay as comfortable as possible. Every care segment has landscaped communal areas, serving care purposes, such as living rooms, dining rooms, occupational therapy rooms, physiotherapy , movement therapy and events. These places are easily accessible, suitable for people with disabilities or mobility problems, have fire protection, emergency exits, while the floors, equipment, furniture and handles are selected in a way to ensure the safety and freedom of patients’ movement.
Outside, there are: a pergola with seats that convert to occupational therapy place during summer, amphitheater for events, church of St. Therapon for the performance of holy ceremonies, separate courtyards transformed into areas of group activities and small gardens with benches, from all sides of the lnstitution for personal relaxation.
