The New Floor of the New Elderly Couples’ Wing of the Annousakeio Therapeutic Center of our Metropolis celebrated its opening on Saturday August 16th. Morning Mass was held at the Metropolitan Church Evagelismou of Theotokou by the respected Metropolites of Arkalohori, Kasteli and Vianou Mr. Andreou, Kydonias and Apokoronou Mr. Damaskinos, and our Pastor.  It was followed by the New Floor’s Opening Ceremony which was conducted under the respectable Archbishop of Crete Mr. Irinaios.  The former Prime Minister of Greece Mr. Konstantinos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Health and Social Solidarity Mr. Dimitrios Avramopoulos, representatives of the national government, local authorities and authorities representing all of Crete, as well as a crowd of citizens attended the opening ceremony.

The Floor consists of private apartments where elderly couples may stay as well as the Administrative Offices of the Center, a medical examination room, sauna, common areas, etc.  It has two wings.  One wing was donated by the worthy General Venizelos Skalidis of Inahorio Kissamos, a major donor and benefactor of the Center, and his wife Eleni.  Consequently, this wing was justly named “The General Venizelos and Eleni Skalidi Wing.”  As most people are aware, the Annousakeio Therapeutic Center has developed a variety of activities.  In addition to the 70 elderly people it houses, it has two Home Care Units in Kissamo and Selino which serve 350 families, four fully equipped physiotherapy centers, a gym, and a Help Line for the elderly, providing services to our afflicted neighbors in need.
