The second charity mission in Uganda: January
27th to February 6th, 2007.
The Annousakeio Therapeutic Centre’s second mission to Uganda undertook
to complete the goals of the first mission and plan new goals for the future.
Heading the team once again was the Director of the Therapeutic Centre
Priest Antonios, accompanied by Dr. Eftihios Mouzourakis, Stefania Sxetaki
(nurses’ supervisor), Manolis Kotzampasakis and Maria Tsiledaki (nurse), Anna
Gavalaki (physiotherapist), Maria Vaidaki (social worker) and Vicky Apostolaki
(volunteer).
The team was hosted for a second time by the Metropolite
of Kabala Mr. Ionas.
The aims that had already been achieved
were:
Operation of
breeding unit and poultry farm that cover the needs of Saint Antonios
parishioners in Monde
Modification
of school room.
Drilling to
find drinkable water consequently reducing the percentage of transmitted
diseases.
Forty parishioners were baptised during the second mission in Uganda and
a temporary medical unit was set up where 250 people were examined.
The social worker met with groups of women from Monde to determine their
needs and, subsequently, their new aims.
The amount of 22 000 euros was given to the Priest Antonio Mountiamba,
who is in charge for the parish of Monde. This amount raised was the result of
a plea for help that was addressed to the community of Kissamos in order to
facilitate the following aims:
Restoration
of three kindergarten rooms.
Construction
of a Medical Office.
Purchase of
medicine, clothing, footwear and one motorcycle for the needs of the
Parish.
Payment of
tuition fees for the education of one doctor.
The Annousakeio Therapeutic Centre will
continue its effort to complete the construction of a Medical Office, the
school rooms and the new Holy Temple of Saint Antonios,
in order that the parishioners of Monde may live in safety and with hope for
their future.
