Between 6th and 14th of November 2004, the Annousakeio Therapeutic Centre, with the support of the Holy Metropolis of Kisamos and Selino, went on its first humanitarian charity mission to Uganda.

The Director of the Annousakeio Centre Priest Antonios together with Dr. Eftixios Mouzourakis (orthopaedic doctor), George Aggelioudakis (nurse), Stefania Shetaki (nurse), Maria Vaidaki and Dominiki Katzouraki (social workers) participated in this mission.

The aim of this humanitarian charity mission was to examine the social and economic needs and the living conditions of the area in general so that beneficial, meaningful and permanent support could be offered in the future.

With the help of our community, a significant amount of money was raised (8.000 euro), which was allocated in different sectors such as education, food, clothing etc.

Emphasis was placed mainly on supporting an agricultural and stockbreeding unit that was already operating with the initiative of the Annousakeio Therapeutic Centre. This unit will contribute considerably to the economic autonomy of Saint Antonios parish in Monde (stockfarming of pigs, cows etc).

Moreover, for three-days primary medical and pharmaceutical care was given, in which roughly 500 individuals of all ages were examined.

Finally, the members of this mission participated in the baptism of 55 young and older persons, as well as in other religious events.

Through the Orthodox Church’s daily battle to feed, educate and enlighten all those struggling but proud and still smiling people, hope is born. We saw this hope in Uganda and wanted to strengthen it through the economic aid that was given, as well as through medical attention, but most of all through our love, smile and presence.

The solidarity and support to the brother nation of Uganda will continue.
