The Annousakeio
Therapeutic Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Kisamos and Selino’s
Home Care Service of Selino was founded in accordance with the Ministry of
Health and Welfare decision number Π48/55/5799/7-10-.
It
has been operating in the province of Selino since February 1999 and is located
within the Health Centre of Kantanos.Kantanos.The Home Care team of Selino consists of a social
worker, a nurse, a family assistant and a driver.
The aim of the Programme is to offer home care
in an attempt to avoid placing the elderly and people with special needs in
institutions but rather to help them remain in their own familiar environment
for as long as possible and as long as they want.
Home care service is
available to:
·Elderly people who live alone,
·Elderly people that cannot care for themselves,
·Elderly that are experiencing financial difficulties
·Individuals which need special care
·Persons with special needs
·Families with social problems
This programme provides
services to residents of the municipalities of eastern Selino and Kantanos. In
addition, permanent residents of the neighbouring regions of Mesavlia,
Kakopetros and Palaia Roumata of the
municipality
of
Voukolies are visited by the
Kantanos Home Care team even though they are located in the
province
of
Kisamos. The reason
for this is that these regions are geographically closer to the
municipality
of
Kantanos, and thus
belong to the Health Centre of Kantanos, where the Kantanos mobile unit is
based.
The Home Care Service of
Kantanos provides mainly nursing care to individuals who are not registered in
the Programme but are residents of the regions in which its services are
provided. This occurs because of the peculiarity that the regions present
(mountainous area) and the population group (elderly).
The number of the individuals
or families that are being cared for by the Home Care service is not constant;
it is subject to factors such as the number of residents that change according
to season and death et.
The services which are
offered are:
·Nursing care
·Personal hygiene and house cleaning
·Cooking
·Practical everyday help
·Transportation to nursing institutions and making
arrangements with various services,
·Prescriptions, buying and delivering medicine,
·Health education and prevention check ups: anti-flu
vaccination, etc.
·Emotional support – counseling.
The mobile Home Care Service
of Selino collaborates with the nursing institutions and the social services of
the prefecture, the municipalities, the local institutions and the Health
Centres of the province, for issues that concern the individuals who benefit
from the programme’s services.
Care offered at Gavdos island
Since 2004 an annual visit to
the residents of the bordering island of Gavdos for blood testing has been
established.
