The year 2009 constituted a landmark for the voluntary Association, which with legal existence after the judgment with number 6321/5-12-07 of the One-member court of the first instance of Chania, is activated for the benefit of the needs of the elderly people, on an organized basis. It is the year in which the members of the association make known their role, support their aims and attempt the expansion of their charitable society. The aim is the support of the activities of the foundation, which are many and vary as well as the offering of direct help to the elderly people who are hosted there.

For this period the following aims are achieved:

1)     The purchase of two vehicles for the transfers of the elderly people in and out of the community. The financial offer from the National Lottery was exploited as well as the donation of a member of the community. The one vehicle serves the needs of the people who don’t have difficulty in moving and the other, for those who move in wheelchairs. In this way the capability for everyone to have contact with the wider surrounding, is enabled equally and rightly. The blessing of the two vehicles takes place on the 25^th November 2009 when the Association organizes a very successful manifestation in honor to the donator.

2)     On everyday basis a member of the Association takes part in the feeding of lunch of the guests of Annousakeio (this promotes the social contact with the aim of their encouragement).

3)     The materialization of entertaining programs with live music on the name days of the elderly people or on other celebrating periods.

4)     The protection of the rights of the elderly to take part in all of the “expressions” of social life. Volunteers accompany the groups of the elderly people to attend in every kind of social happening that takes place in the community. Furthermore, regular outings are arranged with company to different places of the area so that they can maintain a strong contact with the social surrounding.

5)     The collaboration with the citizens of the community for the organization of common voluntary cultural and entertaining activities like: blood donation, musical, dancing and other happenings. For example, the carrying out of a happening with the participation of primary school children and the elderly of the foundation so that the two age groups can communicate and also with the view to sensitizing the students and the local community.

6)     The development of volunteering with the aim of broadening the Association in which the registered members are more than 100 and offer a small yearly subscription for the strengthening of its aims.

To sum up the Association makes efforts so that the living of the patients to be comfortable and the living conditions all the time are improving developing a positive attitude towards their new surrounding.

The member’s belief is that the voluntary offer is substantial and necessary nowadays when indifference and disappointment prevail.
